Support for House Bill 1000 (2011 Success)

The Chamber supported House Bill 1000 in order to benefit the University of Texas at Dallas and its quest to achieve Tier One Status as a nationally recongnized research university. A recent constitutional amendment established the national research university fund to provide a dedicated, independent, and equitable source of funding to enable emerging research universities in Texas to achieve national prominence as major research universities. HB1000 seeks to aid Texas universities in their quest to become Tier One institutions. The creation of more Tier One universities has been a top priority of higher education policy makers for several years. The issue is that Texas still only has 3 tier One universities, but with the aid of HB 1000, Texas can look to garnering more nationally recognized Tier One universities.
